IT-Mac 200 Capsule itraconazole is used when a fungal infection needs more than a simple cream or when the infection is in places where topical treatments do not reach well.
Itraconazole is a triazole antifungal, the same active ingredient found in brand-name Sporanox. It is commonly prescribed for certain skin fungal infections (such as tinea corporis or tinea cruris), some yeast-related conditions, and for selected deeper fungal infections, such as histoplasmosis or blastomycosis, when your clinician decides it is appropriate.
The exact condition it treats depends on your diagnosis and your medical history.
IT-Mac 200 Capsule is typically taken by mouth. For itraconazole capsules, absorption is usually better with food. Try to take it at the same time each day so it is easier to stay consistent.
Stomach acid helps the capsule absorb. Acid-reducing medicines (such as some antacids, H2 blockers, and proton pump inhibitors) may reduce absorption. If you use these, your prescriber or pharmacist may suggest timing changes or an alternative plan. Do not adjust medications on your own.
Your treatment length depends on what is being treated. Some infections require weeks, while others may need longer courses. Stopping early can lead to relapse.
Heart failure warning: Itraconazole can worsen or trigger heart failure in some people. If you have a history of heart failure or notice shortness of breath, swelling in your legs, unusual weight gain, or fatigue, contact a clinician promptly.
Liver risk: Like many antifungals, itraconazole can affect the liver. Your clinician may order blood tests, especially if treatment is longer or you have liver disease. Call for help if you notice dark urine, yellowing of skin/eyes, or severe nausea.
Drug interactions: This is a big one. Itraconazole can significantly alter levels of many medicines (and many medicines can alter itraconazole levels). Certain combinations can be dangerous due to heart rhythm risks or toxicity. Share a full medication list, including supplements.
Many people tolerate itraconazole, but side effects can happen. Commonly reported ones include stomach upset, nausea, diarrhea, headache, or dizziness.
More serious effects are less common but need urgent attention, especially symptoms of liver problems, allergic reaction, or worsening breathing/swelling.
